The usage of carbon can be seen in products like face wash, face mask, other beauty products, and even cosmetic dermatological procedures. From activated carbon to charged charcoal particles, this natural substance has been marketed in different forms and has been projected as the "one solution to several skin problems".
But, is it really true or is it just another marketing stunt?
Let’s find out!

Some of the known benefits of carbon are:

1. It absorbs excess oil from the skin.

This property of carbon makes it really useful as many skin problems are caused due to oily skin. Skin conditions like acne and open pores all have an underlying cause that is affected by oily skin. The application of liquid carbon on oily skin enables the absorption of the excess sebum and leaves the skin moist yet oil-free. This is why dermatologists recommend products like face wash and face mask which have a carbon content to people with oily skin type.

2. It is a good skin exfoliant
Activated carbon helps in removing the dead skin cells by gently exfoliating the skin. This results into a smooth textured and soft skin.

3. Carbon goes deep in the skin and extracts impurities.

Another natural property of carbon is to extract impurities from the skin. When a layer of liquid carbon is applied, it reaches the deepest skin layers and absorbs the dirt and other impurities. This provides deep cleansing.

4. It shrinks open pores
Carbon also helps in tightening the pores thereby restoring the firmness of the skin. Which further helps in preventing whiteheads or blackheads.

Use of carbon in dermatology
When dead cells and tiny dirt particles get stuck in the skin pores, the effects are not just physical, but it changes the skin composition chemically. In simple words, the ageing of the skin is triggered. In such cases, it becomes necessary to provide a solution that not only acts as a cleanser but also revitalizes the skin's lost nutrients. Procedures like carbon divine treatment which is available at Parisa Skin Cosmetic & Laser Centre; work on the same principle. Here, the regular liquid carbon method is combined with laser treatment. The laser treatment heats up the dermis layer of the skin which causes a sequence of controlled damage. This kicks off the collagen count in the body and provides a natural healing effect on the targeted region.

While carbon has some really impressive properties, it is not a solution to every skin problem for every individual. Keeping in mind that not everyone has the same skin type and not every skin problem has the same cause, no action should be taken for any skin problem without consulting a skin specialist. Nevertheless, we can not deny the fact that carbon is indeed a miracle ingredient.
