SKIN TAGS

Doctor For Skin Tags Treatment

A skin tag appears as a small soft benign skin growth like a bump on adult skin. A common skin problem, it usually shows in midlife affecting both men and women. Also known as acrochordon, cutaneous papilloma, cutaneous tag, fibroepithelial polyp, fibroma molluscum, fibroma pendulum, soft fibroma, and Templeton skin tags. They usually occur in creases or folds of the skin around eyelids, armpits, grown, under the breasts, upper chest and neck. In some cases, people may have skin tags and never notice them while in others they fall off painlessly.

COMMON SITES: The main symptom is a hanging skin growth on the skin often on the neck, upper chest, underarms, groin, and eyelids. They are not present at birth and their frequency increases with age. Various studies have shown the genetic predisposition to the development of skin tags. It is medically termed as acrochordon.

CAUSES OF SKIN TAGS: It is believed to develop due to friction between adjoining areas of skin or between clothing and skin. Due to increased friction, skin tags are more common in overweight or obese individuals. They are also seen in people with diabetes, acanthosis nigricans, Crohn's disease and during pregnancy. SKIN TAGS ARE NOT CANCEROUS GROWTHS.

SYMPTOMS: Skin tags are typically flesh-colored or may appear brown in light-skinned individuals. They may be smooth or wrinkled and size may vary from 1 mm to size of a plum. Sometimes bigger skin tags are twisted which compromises with their blood supply and they may turn red or black. They are not typically painful.

TREATMENT: Skin tags treatment is indicated if it is disturbing for the patient. Treatment involves surgical removal of skin tags by Radiofrequency or Laser under local anesthesia. There is no bleeding after the procedure; just a dry wound which heals like any other trauma site.
